Frozen shoulder is a common shoulder problem characterized by pain and limitation
of movement. It can be seen in both young and old age. It is more common in women than
men and more common in the age of 40-60 years. The problem may occur as a result of a
trauma, or it often starts gradually on its own. Stress, strain, sudden movement, diabetes,
muscle weakness are the most common causes. Secondly, it may develop due to thyroid
problems, Parkinson's disease, cardiac surgery and shoulder fractures. There are muscle
tears, capsule and ligament damage, degenerative changes in the joint and related
inflammation, edema and pain in frozen shoulder problem. Pain usually occurs during
movement and pain is rare at rest.
Treatment usually takes a long time. In addition to medical treatment, stretching
without forcing the shoulder should be done within the pain limit. Healing is achieved by
increasing the mobility of the restricted joints, relaxing the contracted muscles, and
physiotherapy exercises and electrotherapy program performed without damaging the soft
tissue. In the next period, the treatment is continued by adding strengthening exercises.
